Everest Base Camp Trek Overview

The trek to Sagarmatha Base Camp starts in Kathmandu after your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport. After your arrival, the team’s representatives will be their to drop you off at your hotel. The following day, you will catch a flight from Kathmandu to Lukal, which will take about 35 minutes. This thrilling flight offers great views of the hills, rivers, valleys and Himalayas.

Please note that, during the peak seasons (March, May, September and November), direct flights from Kathmandu to Lukla might not be available given the increased number of travelers. In such a case, you will first drive from Kathmandu to Ramechaap by local bus or jeep, which will take about 4 to 5 hours. Then, from Ramechhap, you will board a flight to Lukla, which takes about 20 minutes.

From Lukla, the journey to Everest Base Camp commences along the Dudh Koshi River, leading to Namche Bazaar through the scenic Sagarmatha National Park. Namche, renowned for its acclimatization facilities, also serves as the trade hub of the Everest region.

Though the trek is a bit challenging, it offers awe-inspiring panoramas of majestic mountains, verdant hills, fertile farms, and dense forests, serving as a constant source of motivation. Following a day of acclimatization in Namche Bazaar, you will continue our expedition towards Porsche.

The next day, you will hike from Porsche to Dingboche. After acclimatizing in Dingboche, you will resume your journey the next morning, progressing towards Lobuche. En route, you'll be treated to remarkable vistas of prominent peaks such as Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Ama Dablam.

The following day, you will ascend Kala Patthar to witness the majestic sunrise over Mt. Everest and its neighboring peaks. After savoring the breathtaking views, you will make your way back to Gorak Shep and descend to Pheriche Village.

The return journey retraces your steps through lush pine and rhododendron forests. The unforgettable journey concludes with a domestic flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu.

Accommodations during 15 days Everest Trek

During the journey, you will be accommodated with 2 nights in Kathmandu and 11 nights in local tea houses or lodges throughout your trekking trails. The rooms will be shared on twin sharing basis. However, if you want a single room, communicate your requirements during the time of your booking.

You will stay in a cozy hotel in Kathmandu before starting your trip, giving you time to unwind and get ready for the exciting journey ahead. The hotels in Kahmandu provide facilities like warm showers, comfortable rooms, and delectable meals that let you relax and get used to the new time zone.

You'll stay in teahouses or guesthouses in the quaint communities along the trail as you head out on it. The modest but pleasant rooms here come with mattresses and blankets, making for a warm and authentic stay.

To encourage a sense of friendship among travelers, the majority of teahouses also provide communal dining spaces where you can savor substantial meals and converse with other travelers.

More premium lodging options with extra amenities like electricity and connected toilets can be found in trekking destinations like Namche Bazaar and Dingboche. Before continuing your journey, these lodgings offer a much-needed break that lets you recover and sleep well.

Given the difficult terrain and severe weather, lodging choices are more basic at higher altitudes, such as Gorak Shep and Lobuche.

Meals During Trekking to Everest Base Camp

Food plays a crucial role throughout your Everest trek. For the majority of the journey, you will be offered simple and nourishing meals, such as Dal Bhat Tarkari, a hearty soup made from lentils, rice, and vegetables.

This dish is rich in protein and energy, providing essential sustenance for hiking. Additionally, our menu includes traditional Nepali dishes like thukpa (noodle soup), momos (dumplings), and sherpa curry.

While you will also find Western options such as spaghetti, pizza, and burgers, availability may be limited as you ascend to higher altitudes. In these regions, you'll primarily be provided with staple Nepali fare like dal bhat.

Rest assured, regardless of your dietary preferences or budget, you will have a diverse and satisfying culinary experience throughout the journey.

Upon completion of the adventure and return to Kathmandu, the team organizes a farewell dinner to commemorate the success of your journey. This celebratory event allows us to reflect on the unforgettable experiences shared during the trip and bid farewell with gratitude and friendship.

Travel Insurance for Trip to Everest Base Camp

Travel insurance is essential and required for every visitor to Nepal who plans to trek for safety concerns. Purchasing travel insurance is a simple online process. Following are the reasons why you should get travel insurance for the journey.

  • Medical Coverage: You run the risk of altitude sickness when your trek reaches high elevations like Thorong La Pass. Insurance that provides sufficient medical coverage and helicopter evacuation is essential.
  • Trip Cancellation or Interruption: Unprepared for unforeseen circumstances like illness or natural disasters might cause challenges in your trek. So, through travel insurance, you can get a refund for canceled trek packages, canceled flights, and other pre-paid costs.
  • Emergency Evacuation: Select travel insurance that addresses emergency evacuation in case of unanticipated situations, using a ground ambulance or a helicopter.
  • Personal Effects: Losing or damaging your luggage can ruin your trek. Insurance that includes luggage coverage reduces the cost of having to replace misplaced or stolen goods.

Altitude Sickness During Everest Trekking Journey

You might be worried about this trek, as altitude sickness can be a risk because the trail ascends to 5,364 meters (17,598 feet) at Everest Base Camp.

When your body can't adapt to the reduced oxygen levels at high elevations, it might result in altitude sickness. Altitude sickness symptoms might include headaches, nausea, exhaustion, lightheadedness, and trouble falling asleep.

It's important to be hydrated during the trek, so it is encouraged to stay well-hydrated to avoid dehydration. Along with that, make sure that you walk at your own pace; this will help you to acclimate properly.

If you feel any symptoms of altitude sickness or any discomfort in your body, make sure to inform your guides. They are there to ensure your safety and make sure you have a comfortable and safe trekking experience.

Important Advice for Safe and Smooth Everest Journey

  • Maintain a steady, comfortable walking speed. Please do not rush or even take too many pauses.
  • Invest in premium clothes and footwear.
  • Stay hydrated at all times to reduce your risk of altitude sickness. Your body requires far more than three liters of water each day when trekking.
  • Use water purification pills before drinking any water that comes from the taps in the area.
  • Be sure you have enough cash on you. Additionally, as most teahouse operators only take Nepalese money, avoid carrying foreign cash.
  • Steer clear of smoke and alcohol during the trek. You tend to become dehydrated from it.
  • Always have a handheld flashlight with you. You'll need a source of light if you have to use the restroom after dark.
  • Get in a few months of physical training before the trek, if possible.
  • Always handle your luggage with care. Carry essential items such as cell phones and cameras at all times.
