Best Season for Mardi Himal Trek

Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–December) are considered the ideal seasons for this trek. The following explains why these seasons are perfect for your short trek to Mardi Himal.

Spring Season (From March till May)

The weather in spring is often pleasant and consistent, with warm days and cold evenings. The trail's lower sections are abundant with vibrant rhododendrons and other wildflowers, making for an amazing sight. Since the monsoon rains haven't started yet, you can expect a bright sky and clear mountain vistas.

At lower elevations (around 1,700 to 3,000 meters), daytime temperatures can vary from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F), while nighttime temperatures can be as low as 5°C to 10°C (41°F to 50°F).

Lower temperatures are experienced at higher elevations, with typical daytime highs of 5°C to 15°C (41°F to 59°F) and typical every-night temperatures of -5°C to 5°C (23°F to 41°F).

Autumn Season (From September till December)

Autumn is a great time of year because of the beautiful skies, steady weather, and breathtaking vistas of the mountains.

It will no longer be the monsoon season, with bright skies and stunning vistas of the mountains. Since this falls during Nepal's holiday season, you may come across regional festivities and cultural activities while hiking.

At lower elevations, daytime temperatures can vary from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F), while overnight lows can be between 5°C and 10°C (41°F to 50°F). Higher elevations usually have daytime highs between 5°C and 15°C (41°F and 59°F) and overnight lows between -5°C and 5°C (23°F and 41°F).

Other seasons

  • Summer (June–August): The route becomes muddy and risky due to the rainy and leachy monsoon season. But there are fewer people around, and some people might find the lush surroundings appealing.
  • Winter (December–February): Snowfall at higher elevations might increase the difficulty of the trek. Some travelers might find the possibility of snow-capped summits and the lack of crowds appealing, though.

Mardi Himal Base Camp

Mardi Himal Base Camp is located in the center of Nepal's Annapurna area. Mardi Himal, which is east of the well-known Annapurna base camp, provides a more pure and uncrowded hiking experience.

Mardi Himal base camp is located at an elevation of 4,500 meters (14,764 feet) above sea level. From there, you will be able to see expansive views of massive peaks like Machapuchare (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli.

After opening in 2012, the trek ascended over a ridge towards the top, offering lodges and teahouses up to 3,550 meters. From there, it's a further climb to 4,500 meters, where "Base Camp" is located. The Nepalese government has declared the summit a "trekking peak." This Mardi Himal hike has gained fame ever since.

The Mardi Himal hike is regarded as being of moderate difficulty, although it has some elevation gain and rough terrain. For novices with a decent degree of fitness and commitment, it is doable because of the well-defined routes and moderate elevation.

Permits Required for Short Mardi Himal Trek

To ensure conformity with local legislation, you must get the proper permissions for the short Mardi Himal trip. Usually, the following permits are needed for the Mardi Himal trek:

Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS)

All trekkers in Nepal, including those who travel in the Annapurna area, must have a TIMS card. It aids in the tracking of trekkers by authorities and offers assistance in cases of emergency. The cost of a TIMS permit card is NRS 2,000 (USD 20) for foreigners.

Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)

Trekking in the Annapurna Conservation Area, which includes this trail, requires the ACAP. The permit payments benefit local communities and contribute to funding conservation activities in the area. ACAP costs NRS 3,000 (USD 30) for foreigners.

Please Note: At Nepal Trek Adventure, we have included the charges for these permits in our package. Our guides will be responsible for getting you these permits so you can have a well organized and smooth journey.

Accommodations during 9 Days Mardi Himal Trek

During the trekking days, local tea houses are the best accommodation options. Accommodations can be found at a number of teahouses along the trekking path. These are budget lodges that provide basic twin-bedded rooms or dorm-style lodging.

There are common restrooms and dining spaces, and the amenities are simple but typically neat and cozy. Although they can be limited, particularly at higher altitudes, solar-powered hot showers are another feature of certain teahouses.

Even though the majority of accommodations offer bedding, we advise bringing a sleeping bag for extra warmth and comfort, particularly in higher altitudes where the temperatures at night can get very low.

Meals During Trek To Mardi Himal

A wide range of culinary alternatives is available at this trek to accommodate different dietary needs. The region's cuisine is flavorful and offers you a glimpse of the region's historic culinary traditions.

A staple in the Himalayan area, Dal Bhat is a rice and lentil soup meal that is typically served with pickles and vegetables.

Trekkers often choose it since it's a great source of proteins and carbs. Not to mention, Masala Chai, the local tea, is a well-liked beverage that goes well with cookies and noodles for snacks.

We advise you to drink at least three liters of water each day because staying hydrated is crucial for the walk. Tea cafes and stores along the path sell bottled water. You may also stay warm with a variety of hot beverage options, including tea, coffee, and hot chocolate.
